Loving Ourselves Through Perimenopause in a Social Media World
For women in their 40s, perimenopause can feel like a season of transition we never fully prepared for. Our bodies shift, hormones fluctuate, sleep can be elusive, and weight seems to settle in new places no matter how disciplined we are. At the same time, social media floods our feeds with “perfect” bodies and the latest quick-fix trends- often highlighting the use of Ozempic and other GLP-1 medications as a supposed answer to midlife changes.
It’s easy to feel like we’re falling behind or that we’re not measuring up. But here’s the truth: your worth is not defined by the size of your jeans, the smoothness of your skin, or the number on the scale. These external pressures create a false standard that very few women-if any-truly live up to.
Perimenopause is not something to fight against but a natural stage of life. Our bodies are wise, resilient, and deserving of compassion. Instead of comparing ourselves to a filtered highlight reel, what if we paused and simply appreciated who we are right now?
Take a deep breath. Wrap your arms around yourself. Give yourself a great big hug. Offer the grace you so easily give to others, back to yourself. Because happiness doesn’t come from chasing someone else’s ideal… it comes from embracing your own unique journey.
Let’s shift the focus from shame to celebration. Celebrate your strength. Celebrate the life you’ve lived and the wisdom you’ve gained. Celebrate the beauty that radiates from self-acceptance.
So, the next time you catch your reflection, choose love over criticism. Smile at the woman in the mirror. She is enough. You are enough. Always.
